The aim of the project is to develop a new building for House of Dance in Stockholm that will improve the institution’s existing condition and reinforce their role as an important cultural institution. The chosen site is a green urban void in a central district of the city. The intention is to maintain the existing green space on the site and at the same time introduce new kinds of programs and events. The strategy is to give more and take less, to be generous, and provide the area with a new and unique public space.
A careful understanding of both the context and the program has lead to a series of new potentials regarding private and public interactions. Apart from creating standard performance spaces there has been a focus on exploring new in between spaces. The building is like a stage in itself where contemporary dance and closely related performance art can be practiced and performed, in a large variation of spatial configurations.
