RECORD is a user-driven innovation project which main goal is to improve Norwegian technology- and service providers ability to develop new products and services for social networks, where users share and access audiovisual content.
Aim
AHO is responsible for design-related activities in the project. We adopt research-by-design approach, and are responsible for delivering design concepts, demonstrators and prototypes in a set of design cases. These cases are related to the three business partners in the project, NRK, Telenor and Vålerenga football, all dealing with social networks and rich media content in various ways. In addition we are looking at how users can be involved in such a design process, and we theorise on a range of issues relevant to the project.
Partners
The project owner is Opinion. Research activities are coordinated by SINTEF. Other partners include: Telenor, NRK, Opera Software, Vålerenga Fotball, and the Oslo school of Architecture and Design (AHO). RECORD is associated with the international research projects CITIZEN MEDIA and COST294 MAUSE.
Personnel
At AHO there is a project leader, a PhD student and a desiger/researcher:
Jonathan Romm (Project leader)
Jonathan Romm is trained as an industrial designer from the Danish Design School, and graduated in 1996 with interface design and design management as major areas of study. He has worked with design and development of services and media formats at the Danish Radio in Copenhagen, and was for three years external diploma sensor at AHO. Since 2006 he has been affiliated with the Institute of Industrial Design at AHO, and from January 2008 he has been the institute leader.
Jon Olav Eikenes (PhD-student)
Jon Olav is trained as an industrial designer from AHO, and graduated in 2006. During his studies he was one year at Elisava Escola Superior de Disseny i Barcelona, worked in a student project for ABB Corporate Research, and won several design competitions. He is doing a PhD in RECORD, focusing on the use of animation in screen interfaces. Jon Olav writes about his project in his blog Navimation Research.
Jørn G. S. Knutsen (Forsker / Designer)
Jørn is trained as an industrial designer from AHO, and graduated in 2007. Earlier projects have incorporated design of urban games, social media and technology for everyday use, and social environments. In RECORD he will focus on how social media and sharing rich media content can be integrated in everyday life. Jørn is also part of the design group Tengil.
Prof. Andrew Morrison
Andrew is a co-researcher and supervisor in RECORD and heads the design research at the Institute of Design.
